Set within 12 acres of landscaped grounds, placed amongst lush green hills in the South Hams area of Devon, the spectacular Grade I listed mansion, Flete House overlooks the beautiful, unspoilt Erme Estuary and enjoys stunning views of Dartmoor National Park. It is close to Ivybridge and Modbury, both pretty historic towns with handy local amenities.
Flete House itself dates from the Elizaibethan period, when it was home to an affluent Devon family. In the 1870's the house was restored by the famous Victorian architect Norman Shaw. The Mildmay family then used it to entertain lavishly, including members of the Royal Family amongst their guests. The gardens of Flete House are grade II listed. The Water Garden, originally designed in 1925 by Russell Page to complement the house, is arguably the most breathtaking.
Flete House lies within the Coastal Preservation Area, South Devon Heritage Coast and an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is less than 15 minutes drive to the nearest beach at Modbury and for keen golfers, numerous golf courses are within easy reach.
